Mr. G’s Cooking Classes with Chef John

The purpose of these classes are to instruct individuals, couples, friends and groups to expand their knowledge and advance their level of cooking expertise. At the end of the class, each individual will walk away with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction of achievement, not to mention a delicious meal that you have prepared. Each individual will be given handouts on all we cover during class. This includes menus, product information, timelines, techniques, tips, notes on wine parings and finally plate presentation. In each session we will prepare a complete meal from start to finish -- an appetizer, soup or salad, a main coarse including protein, vegetable and starch and concluding with a beautiful dessert.

We offer three levels of cooking classes to fit the interest and ability of all individuals.
Beginners (Cooking 101)

Everyone has to start somewhere, we all do!
Intermediate

For people who possess good cooking skills that want to expand their repertoire. Some research will be required before taking this class.
Advanced

For the expert cook/chef who wants to learn more about products and procedures along with new and different ways to prepare items such as sauces, soups, salads, and grilling and cooking techniques. Some research will be required before taking this class.

Classes will begin Monday, September 20th and will be held every Monday thereafter. Two sessions, one morning and one evening, will be open to attend, 10am to 1pm and 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

Individuals: $45.00 per person

Couples or 2 individuals attending at the same time: $80.00 per 2

Groups of 5 or more, 10 maximum $38.50 per person

Individuals signing up for 4 or more classes: $38.50 per person

The price of each session includes all materials, products, recipes, handouts and the finished meal with a wine paring. Additional glasses or bottles of wine are available during the meal portion of the class only. Who should sign up for these classes? EVERYONE! It's a great opportunity for singles to meet new people, for couples to take on a hobby together and learn how to work side-by-side in the kitchen, and it's also a great way to enjoy the camaraderie between friends in groups of 5-10.

Each of the classes will consist of five sections:

Introductions to the Material
Food Products and Equipment
Cooking Methods and Procedures
Safety for Food and Kitchen
Presentation to the Plate

Each section is as follows:

Introduction to the Material will quickly review the class outline for the day and what will be accomplished in that time frame. Food Products and Equipment will address the specific foods of the class and the methods of preparing them and the use of specific equipment.

Cooking Methods and Procedures will review the recipes and complete menu for the class and how to breakdown the recipes into required mise en place and a timetable for preparation. Safety for Food and Kitchen will talk about the handling of the food products; storage and cooking requirements and then kitchen safety will address knife skills, procedures and cleanliness.

.

Presentation to the Plate will review the proper plating procedures of each dish, along with wine parings for the main meal and recommendations for each additional coarse to make it a very special meal.
